Does the 24 Hour Shift Increase Costs and Diminish Service in Small Municipalities?

Webinar Date:

July 11, 2018 11:30amET

Presenter:

Ross Dunsmore, Dunsmore Law

Ross Dunsmore has been practicing Fire Department law for more than 30 years. He has represented many Fire Departments and has been a regular speaker at the Ontario Fire College for many years. A number of his clients have 24 hour shift trials and some still do not because they remain wary of cost increases and services reductions. He has extensive interest arbitration experience on the subject, particularly in Central York.

Webinar Synopsis:

Fire Departments around the country are doing some sort of water rescue activities or have though about it, have they made the correct decision, and do they understand the risks that are associated with this decision. We have seen many 1 st Responders perish while preforming their duties, some in training and more during calls. We know that Municipalities have paid fines, Chiefs have lost their jobs and now we see trainers or instructors being charged for incidents that have gone wrong. Hard decisions need to be made about using the correct equipment, training to the right standards and having good SOG's that protect the department and its members.
